Black Horse Farm has been in the Russell family for over 60 years. In 1999, Larry Dukes teamed with his father-in-law, Harry Russell, Sr., and a few friends to design a golf academy to help new players, young and old, learn this special game. They installed synthetic tees and greens to make maintenance easier and ensure new golfers could learn without damage to tees and greens.

Master golf professional Frank Laber joined the staff as Head of Instruction and brought the experience and education of a top PGA professional. Frank was Head of Instruction for seven years before retiring to Ocean City, MD. Frank was succeeded by Mark Paolini and Mark Beran.

When COVID-19 struck the community, Black Horse was without a PGA professional for the first time in our history. We also lost all of our maintenance staff except for Rodney Soth, Head Groundskeeper. This forced a new approach to operating our facility. Rodney is teamed with Sean Ireton on a daily basis to pick up balls, cut grass, fill baskets, and make the facility clean for our clients. We started and continue to operate on the “Honor System” – accepting cash and Venmo. This has served us safely and honestly for almost five years.

On Sundays, Black Horse Golf Clubhouse hosts church services and Sunday School for Gateway Community of Faith Church and Paster Tom Frech. Please respect the ministry by providing a quiet area Sundays 9-12.
